Fat Loss Diet Plan: Identifying and Eliminating Unhealthy Foods

Have Your Diets Been This Poor?

One major contributor to poor diets is the increased consumption of salty snacks like pretzels and chips. Snack consumption has doubled in the last two decades.  Since sodium promotes water retention, increased sodium intake can lead to weight gain.

This is compounded by America's high consumption of junk food.  Year after year, we consume increasing amounts of processed foods.

The consumption of refined carbohydrates, such as white flour and sugary drinks, significantly contributes to the nation's obesity problem. Refined carbs are prevalent in almost every processed food imaginable.  Many foods you wouldn't expect contain added sugars to enhance their taste.  A significant source of added carbohydrates in the American diet is soda.  Next time you're at the store, check the nutritional information on a soda bottle – look at the total calories and carbohydrates.  Then consider that many people consume three or four sodas daily.

Larger portion sizes also contribute to growing waistlines. Restaurant portion sizes have dramatically increased over the past fifty years, particularly since the 1970s.  Because restaurants now serve larger portions, and people often consume everything served, this leads to weight gain, even with exercise.

The decrease in whole foods in our diets is another significant factor. Whole foods provide essential nutrients and help maintain healthy blood sugar levels without spikes.

In summary, insufficient consumption of nutritious foods coupled with increased calorie intake from unhealthy options leads to higher rates of obesity in America.
